Report: Apple iWatch Debuting Sept. 9 Alongside iPhone 6
iWatch concept. (Belm Designs)
On Sept. 9, it’s iWatch time.
September is shaping up to be a
big month for Apple. In addition to reports that it will launch both
4.7-inch and 5.5-inch versions of its iPhone 6, Re/code’s John Paczkowski is now reporting that Tim Cook and crew will also unveil their highly anticipated wearable device on the same day.
Paczkowski is exceedingly reliable when it coms to rumored reports, having also broken the story of the iPhone 6’s debut date,
as well as the dates of Apple events in the past few years, and so his
iWatch report would seem to be about as solid as it gets.
Still, KGI Securities analyst
Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a similarly impressive track record when it comes
to predicting Apple’s product announcements, claimed recently that
production issues could push the iWatch’s debut to 2015.
The
iWatch is perhaps the most anticipated smartwatch of the seemingly
endless number of such devices that are expected to hit the market this
year.
In addition to the iWatch, companies including ASUS, LG,
Motorola, and Samsung are also expected to launch new smartwatches.
That’s in addition to the watches that LG and Samsung introduced earlier
this year at Google’s I/O developer conference.
Apple’s
iWatch is expected to take advantage of the company’s new HealthKit
platform, a centralized location for fitness and health tracking, and
could include everything from a heart-rate monitor to a sensor that
monitors your exposure to UV rays.
The
iWatch has been one of the most widely-speculated-about products in
recent memory, with varying reports indicating that the device might
come in different sizes, shapes, and colors.
What
we know for sure about the iWatch — if that’s even what Apple will call
it — is that we’ll be there to play with it and bring you our
impressions.
